Because publishing is a knowledge activity, based in the shared knowledge that culture contains, it is essentially collaborative. Each of its stages is best accomplished by people collaborating to accomplish a defined strategy. These stages include knowledge verification; content development; production; marketing and promotion; and sales and distribution.
